ST5000DM000-1FK178
#1
Hello,

We have a Seagate ST5000DM000-1FK178 5TB HD.  We are attempting to read the ROM and we are unable to read the firmware from ATA mode, Terminal Mode or Boot Code Mode.

We would like to know if this HD is supported by the current version of MRT 20160528 or if there is a new version in the works.

Thank you for your time,

Hello, we can support this kind of disk, and can you get acess to T-level?

Yes I am able to get terminal access on T level on our Donor HD.  The patient HD gets FAIL Servo Op and needs a Heads stack transplant. Also, the patient HD does not get Terminal Access at all, even with the PCB stand-alone.

Is there anything you can do.

Update:

Head Stack was replaced and the ROM's were "Physically" swapped from Patient PCB to the Donor PCB. Currently the Patient HD with Donor PCB with Patient ROM is imaging. This is an old school way to image the HD after a head stack change. The HD is running slower than I would like, but it is imaging.

why did you physically transplant the rom?

could you have read the rom from one and written to the other?

do you not trust that procedure?

what about the bootcode procedure?

On this HD in order to read the ROM you need to unlock the PCB via terminal. Only the Latest version of the PC3k can do it right now. Sadly, we do not have that,

why didnt you just swap the whole board ?

swapping the rom will move the head adaptives to the patient - thats good.

But aren't there a lot of other rom modules that would also be moved that would make the board incompatible with the patient?

Like sa translator defect list
or
firmware rev - wd's wont start if the rom loader fw doesnt agree with the sa loader version.

In general you cant swap boards on seagates - so how does this work?

My understanding is that we only want to transfer the head adaptives - not everything.
